EROCx1 @ K-Rave Knott's Berry FarmNew Years Eve 1992 Over 18,000 strong
I was born in Los Angeles, California back in the 70’s. Growing up as new urban art forms began emerging. Breaking, Rap, Grafitti, HipHop and the one that captured my interest. The DJ. What a joyous day when I picked up my used decks & mixer. Kicking off my vinyl collection with Run DMC, Slick Rick & Doug E Fresh, Biz Markie, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Beastie Boys, etc….
Then came the 90’s. Which for me was time to evolve to the next level. It only took one night when playing in the hip hop room at an underground party. There I stayed as the main room freaked my narrow mind out. Well, until I ate a special piece of Starburst candy that unknown to me at the time contained some of Hofmann’s finest. All I can say is WOW. I left that small room for the big room. Very symbolic. HipHop lost its novelty and luster to me and my new religion was now underground dance music.
In 1992, I was the founding member of CyberlabZ International. The Southern California multimedia collective that produced not only music, but specialized in live visuals, intelligent lighting, laser projections, virtual reality attractions and much more. Some of our most memorable Concerts, Festivals, Raves, Events and other Underground gatherings were K-Rave, The Def American World Cup party, Narnia, Circa, Future World, Big Wig Thumper. My favorite spots were the old Insomniac and Family Afterhours and usually started the weekend working at Club Time inside the artist formerly known as Prince’s nightclub. My passion was hardcore early 90’s techno, trance, breaks & gabber, uplifting House and of course loved those stellar ambient rooms.
This is where began my study of entheogens and their impact on the mind, evolution and culture. Over the years I have participated in gatherings, workshops, retreats, read and listened to the works of Dr. Timothy Leary, Terence McKenna, Dennis McKenna, Albert Hofmann, Richard Evans Schultes, Baba Ram Dass, R. Gordon Wasson, Ralph Metzner, Sasha & Ann Shulgin, Dale Pendell, Christian Rätsch, Jonathan Ott, Robert Anton Wilson, Carl A. P. Ruck, Ralph Abraham, Rupert Sheldrake, Myron Stolaroff, Danny Staples, Stanislav Grof, Peter Stafford, Bruce Eisner, Rick Strassmen, D.M. Turner, Kathleen Harrison and many more extraordinary free thinkers and luminaries of our time.
In 1998 I decided to abandon the underground dance scene / industry as a profession due to a profound disenchantment with the scene whose genesis was as a movement that grew into a genuine community, then was poisoned by greed and infiltrated by corporations. The Los Angeles Underground in the early 90’s was one of those rare moments in modern history when the good, the true and the beautiful was purely embraced by a generation that had not occurred since the 60’s. I greatly identified with Hunter S. Thompson when he said, “that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of old and evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look west and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.” Well, with every ending, there is a new beginning and it was time for something new.
Today I am happily married with three children. My involvement with electronic dance music has faded away and now I am only invited to ultra trendy nightclubs a few times each year which I attend to mostly to recharge if you will. Regardless I still love to mix & when doing so feel NRG is referring to me, when they sampled “He never lost his hardcore”.
My other interests are represented on this website. I am assuming you are interested in them as well, since you happened to find me here. Mostly interested in the philosophy, science & thinking that encompass entheogens and no longer require the use of sacraments, their lesson has been taught. I am the proprietor of Gaian Botanicals which mostly I maintain due to it being a doorway for me to meet some really great people and to keep connected with the community that I love.
